NO FEAR! JUST FUN!
Learn to transform static sketches and reference images into inspired, passion-filled paintings with rich and stimulating color. Artist Freda de Otis Flat will show you how to create wonderful paintings through demonstrations, individual attention and quality painting time. Each enrollee will learn brushwork(dry brush), wet into wet, use of water, composition, how to determine lost and found edges, draftsmanship, as well as addressing 3-4 major values. Let artist and instructor Paul Walsh guide and instruct you during this paint party!!!
A canvas 9 X 12 or 11 X 14 inches (or a sheet of 300 watercolor paper)
A basic acrylic paint set or (red, yellow, blue, black and white)
Brushes of any kind. (I will have extras)
A pallet of some kind (paper plate will do)
If you're looking to broaden your palette to have experience in acrylic, you'll gain fresh insight through observing Paul Walsh's classically inspired process. After an overview of tube vs. fluid colors, brushes and panel preparation, Paul launches into the creation of a landscape, drawing on extensive training and experience as an artist in classical realism. This intimate studio setting allows you to see close-up how Paul transfers a drawing, builds a monochromatic underpainting to establish values, then creates both atmospheric effects and rigorously defined details with glazes and opaque painting methods. You'll have a clear view of both palette and brush as he explains how he uses acrylic colors to achieve depth, luminosity and texture techniques you can apply to your own work. As questions arise, Paul is available to answer them and to give you feedback on your own work.
